Video Conferencing Has Security Issues, Too!

Many videoconferences that include classified information are not secure. Secure video conferencing is still a long way to go as it involves investing in hardware and the complexity involved in switching between secure video conference and non-secure conferencing modes. As technology improves more and more people are going in for video
conferencing. Videoconference can be used for conducting interviews, holding meetings, setting up meeting, giving lectures, and has the advantage of reducing travel time and costs. However, unless you have security intrusion prevention systems in place, it is very difficult to conduct a secure video conference.

The demand for secure software for streaming video content to consumers over wide area and wireless network has increased. Secure videoconference is a combination of encryption and authentication techniques. Some of the video secure conferencing tools are intrusion prevention system, vulnerability assessment tools, firewall analyzer, etc. Video conferencing is trickier over IP than it is over standard ISDN lines. With IP, certain problems arise such as security, quality of service, routing, and NAT.

For obvious reasons, security problem is more in IP, but in can be overcome by VPN. The VPN has the disadvantage that it can handle only the data and not the video, so the ISDN has become the standard in videoconference along with security. Many businesses, including lawyers and banks conduct important meetings using VC and it is easy for eavesdroppers to dial in to a room equipped with VC undetected, and gain access to confidential information simply by dialing the access number. Gaining information secretively from a VC can be as easy as making a telephone call to the VC number. This problem exists because companies leave their VC systems open to allow callers to dial in, this means; potentially anyone can dial in, without the knowledge of the host.

Video Conferencing Authentication

The authentication makes it possible to protect and deliver revenue-generating offerings by letting only authorized viewer to access your content, thus giving you the best and maximum control of data. In this process, a password and username is set up for the fixed network in videoconferencing. This way only an authorized person will be able to view the details. It is one of the secure video conferencing methods that give video conferencing security.

A secure conference signifies that external attendees are not allowed to participate in the conference. The conferencing authentication method compares the participant's user account to the list of users invited to the conference. If there is a match, the secure conference ASP join page opens for the participant in his or her browser.

You need authentication to ensure that your media is delivered only to your intended audience. You can also control access by allowing only authorized viewers to access your content. There are basically three types of authentication control called as tokens, IP addresses, and referrers. You can use any of the combination of these three attributes to accept or reject request to view secure media. Authorized users are granted access to live and on demand media.
